Cat Litter Trays
A litter tray is the one place a cat must never have a problem with — otherwise it’ll find somewhere else. Choose based on your cat’s size, the space in your home, and how much time you want to spend on cleaning.

What to look for when choosing
- Size. The tray should be roughly one and a half times longer than your cat, measured from nose to tail base, so it can turn around comfortably. A tray that’s too small is the most common reason a cat goes elsewhere.
- Covered litter trays with a front, side or flap entrance keep both odour and scattered litter contained. However, they may not suit more timid cats.
- Top-entry trays are a solution for cats that dig over the edge — a lid with holes lets litter fall back off their paws. Not suitable for older cats or large breeds.
- Open litter trays are the most common and the cheapest. Choose ones with raised edges so litter doesn’t scatter as easily.
- Number. The recommendation is one tray per cat, plus one extra.
Pick up a scoop to make cleaning as easy as possible, along with replacement filters and bags.
