Rattan is a climbing palm from the Arecaceae family typical of tropical rainforests. The stems of this plant tend to cling to other trees and grow along with them. In the wild, rattan shoots can reach lengths of up to 240 metres. Although rattan is most often mentioned in connection with furniture and decorative items, people forget that it also makes a great chew toy for rodents and rabbits.
