How to choose parrot food?
There are several ways to approach feeding parrots. You can prepare your own mixes of seeds, nuts, grains and fresh (or dried) fruit and vegetables. An easier option, though, is ready-mixed feed blends, which not only save you the effort but, above all, are tailored in composition to the needs of the particular parrot species. After all, the requirements of budgies and large parrots differ considerably.
If you already have experience keeping birds, you'll know that parrots are very intelligent animals. So it can happen that they'll pick out only what they like best from a mix. The solution is either to always wait until they've eaten everything, or to offer them pelleted food instead. This ensures they get all the nutrients they need. Another advantage is that it also significantly cuts down on the mess around the cage that's hard to avoid with seed and nut mixes.
