Which treat should you choose for your cat?
Pastes, cushions or dried meat? And what exactly are functional treats? If you're a little lost when it comes to choosing, let's take a quick tour through the different types of cat treats together.
Creams and pastes
Liquid treats in the form of creams and pastes will usually win over even the fussiest cats. They're also popular for their practical resealable packaging, and make an ideal choice for older cats or kittens, since they can enjoy them even without sharp teeth.
Functional treats
Functional treats offer support for a whole range of health issues. They focus, for example, on dental care, preventing hairballs, healthy digestion, or the nervous system. Cats enjoy them while topping up on essential vitamins at the same time.
Sticks
While some treats are gone in a flash, sticks have the advantage of keeping your cat occupied for longer.
Dried meat treats
Cats are almost entirely carnivorous, so dried meat is a sure way to win them over. These treats are natural, tasty, healthy and grain-free.
Bite-sized treats
If your little tiger loves to play and you've got interactive toys at home, you can't do without small treats for your cat to hunt for in mazes and other puzzle feeders.
Milk treats
Although cats love milk or yoghurt, cow's milk isn't actually suitable for them. You can, however, get them milk treats with a reduced lactose content that won't upset their digestion.
Cat grass
Especially for cats kept indoors, cat grass is a great way to help clear their digestive tract of hair and other indigestible particles.
When choosing treats for your cat, also consider your furry friend's age and favourite flavour, and make sure to check the ingredients list. Meat should be the dominant ingredient, while flavourings, preservatives, colourings, sugar and salt are best avoided.
