A dog is able to synthesise vitamin C from glucose in the liver, but when the need is greater this amount is no longer sufficient. Vitamin C is essential in the synthesis of collagen in the building of cartilage and bones. It also acts as a strong antioxidant - protecting cells against damage from free radicals. It also works as a natural antihistamine, because it helps to reduce the symptoms of allergies.
