Rataj Aquaclay Ground Old Bottom Aquarium Substrate 10l

An enriched aquarium substrate made of fine-grained silica sand, Old Bottom, which is an organomineral complex of nutrients and active bacterial spores.

Old Bottom is supplemented with Aquaclay Ground clay granules. The main advantage of these granules is their internal porosity. Thousands of pores multiply the substrate's active surface area many times over (280 m² per 1 litre of substrate) and are ideal for colonisation by nitrifying bacteria, whose spores are present in Old Bottom. Aquaclay Ground granules are also lightweight, so the aquarium floor does not compact. This allows for a gentle movement of water and an even distribution of heat throughout the substrate profile.

Use: Shape Aquaclay Ground Old Bottom into a layer about 2-4 cm thick in the aquarium. Cover this layer with plain Aquaclay Ground particles so that the total substrate layer is about 5cm at the front glass and about 10 cm at the back glass. Fill the prepared substrate very carefully so that the particles have time to absorb water and so that you do not stir up the enriched substrate at the bottom.
