Rataj Aquaclay Ground Eco-Friendly Aquarium Substrate 10l
An aquarium substrate in granule form, 1-4 mm in size.
An eco-friendly aquarium substrate. It consists of clay granules 1-4 mm in size. Compared to commonly used sands, the granules have many advantages. For one thing, they contain thousands of pores inside, which multiply the active cleaning surface many times over (280 m² per 1 litre of substrate). The size of this surface area is directly proportional to the number of beneficial nitrating and nitrifying bacteria, which are essential for biological balance in the aquarium.
Aquaclay Ground granules are also lighter than sand granules. The substrate does not compact. Better water flow ensures an optimal supply of nutrients and an even temperature throughout the substrate profile. These are optimal conditions for the development of aquarium plant roots.
Use: Pour Aquaclay Ground into the aquarium and shape it so that the layer is about 5 cm thick at the front glass and about 10 cm at the back. Fill the aquarium with water slowly and carefully so the granules have time to absorb water. A substrate prepared this way needs several weeks before it becomes established and activated by bacteria. It is therefore better to use Aquaclay Ground only as a top layer. As a base layer, we use Aquaclay Ground Old Bottom, a substrate enriched with nutrients and active bacteria.
