Hay is an important staple of the diet of pet rabbits. The fibre contained in hay supports intestinal peristalsis and maintains the microbiological balance in the gut. This fibre is vital for rabbits (among other things, it helps with the elimination of hair that the rabbit swallows during its daily grooming).
Rabbits have to chew hay for longer, which wears down their molars. It contains vitamin D (thanks to UV radiation) and beta-carotene.
