WeCalm 10 tabs - Stress

WeCalm® is a nutraceutical that calms and relaxes dogs and cats. It is recommended for use in cases of environmental stress, during storms, fireworks, separation, travel, stays at a dog hotel, and in cases of unwanted behaviour.
WeCalm® can be mixed with food or given directly into the mouth.

Use in specific situations:
Give one to two hours before the expected stressful situation. If the desired effect is not achieved, the dose may be repeated. The recommended amount can be reduced as needed.

Long-term use and behavioural problems:
Give half of the recommended daily dose. Once the desired effects are achieved, the dose can be reduced and repeated once a day to reinforce the effects.

Behavioural changes in dogs and cats are very common. They arise from the surrounding environment or from bad experiences of the animal and give rise to fear and stress.

But why do everyday situations cause so much fear and stress?

Minimal changes, many of which we cannot control, are enough to trigger all the symptoms of fear and stress. The intensity of these manifestations can be influenced by the animal's genetic make-up or its previous experiences, and can cause a feeling of threat that carries varying degrees of risk for the animal and its surroundings.

• At the first signs of a threat, the animal shows increased alertness and tries to resolve the problem immediately (by running away, barking, etc.)
• If the threat does not disappear immediately after the animal's reaction, the animal responds with greater intensity, hoping that this escalation will make the threat go away.
• When the threat/stimulus is repeated, the response becomes immediate, automatic and very intense. The animal starts to react badly to any stimulus (even a less intense one), or even to everyday situations that remind it of the threat.

The most common signs of fear and stress in animals: (drooling, excessive licking, barking, scratching, hiding, destroying things, loss of appetite, trembling, urinating)

Peptazin®
This is a hydrolysed marine peptide with effects similar to those of benzodiazepine on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis with sympathoadrenal activity. It stimulates increased levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the hippocampus and hypothalamus, which improves anxiety control and the learning process.

L-Tryptophan
This is a precursor of serotonin, a neurotransmitter whose function is to control behaviour and mood. Low serotonin levels have been found to be directly linked to stress, depression and aggression.

L-Theanine
Increases levels of the GABA neurotransmitter, which is key to controlling responses of the central nervous system, specifically those associated with fear and anxiety. It also helps to raise serotonin and dopamine levels, which reduces noradrenaline levels.

Vitamins B1, B3 and B6
These vitamins contribute to neuron health and good brain function, reduce agitation and improve concentration. They are an essential cofactor for the production and activity of several neurotransmitters; in particular, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is very important for the conversion of 5-hydroxytryptophan into serotonin.

Short-term and occasional use of WeCalm

• Anxiety caused by a change of environment: Staying in a shelter, moving home, a new animal, a new family member, separation, loneliness.
• Fear and phobia of solitude: fireworks, storms, sirens, etc.
• Stressful situations: Car journeys, vet visits, grooming.
• Behavioural therapy: Animals that are repeatedly exposed to the situations described above. The learning process is improved through the positive effect on dopamine and serotonin metabolism.

Long-term use of WeCalm® and addressing behavioural problems:

• Behavioural problems: Loss of toilet habits (faeces and urine in unsuitable places), marking, whining, tail chasing.
• Separation anxiety: Signs of property destruction, barking and howling, loss of appetite.
• Reactions to other animals, people and objects: Signs of aggression towards other animals, people (postman, strangers, etc.) and other objects.
