Arcadia EarthMix is a natural bioactive substrate designed by experts as a safe and effective substrate for all tropical and forest species of reptiles and amphibians. EarthMix is ready for immediate bioactive use – you can introduce invertebrate helpers on day one, and they will quickly settle into the substrate and start to thrive. The substrate contains a high proportion of natural minerals from volcanic rock, which benefit both plants and animals.

Which species is EarthMix suitable for?
The substrate is intended for all tropical and forest species of reptiles and amphibians. EarthMix supports not only bioactive keeping but also natural animal behaviour – moving through the substrate, digging, burrowing and egg-laying.

What does EarthMix contain?

The mix contains organic components and volcanic rock in a balanced ratio. Volcanic rock ensures good water drainage while also supplying the substrate with natural minerals. The correct ratio between the mineral and organic components supports invertebrate helpers in bioactive systems. EarthMix contains no added fertilisers – it is designed exclusively as a substrate for animals.

Natural behaviour and environmental enrichment

EarthMix supports natural body movement – the muscles that animals use in the wild get the resistance they need to stay in condition as they move through the substrate. The substrate allows for digging and burrowing according to the natural needs of the specific species. When ingested in small amounts, as naturally occurs, the substrate can provide full-spectrum minerals and vitamins.

Practical information

CustodianFuel food can be used to further support invertebrate decomposers. Arcadia recommends adding three pots of springtails on day one to a vivarium 60–120 cm wide, and then one pot per month thereafter. Choose larger invertebrates – woodlice, millipedes and earthworms – according to the specific species and type of environment.

Live plants are beneficial in a bioactive vivarium – they help maintain humidity, provide shelter, create natural environmental enrichment and improve overall water drainage. For optimal plant growth, Arcadia recommends JungleDawn LED lighting.
