Nutrition rich in iron, folic acid, vitamins, minerals and amino acids is key to fighting anaemia and reducing its impact.
Anaemia is a common clinical condition caused by a reduction in the number of red blood cells or in haemoglobin in the blood, which reduces the blood's ability to supply tissues with oxygen.
Approximately two-thirds of the iron needed for haemoglobin formation is obtained from damaged or old red blood cells, while the remaining third is obtained from the diet. However, other important substances are also needed for the proper formation, function and protection of blood cells.
